An 80-year-old man says he responded after a random assailant struck him in the head at a grocery store.

An 80-year-old man said he fought back after a random assailant stabbed him in the head inside a Georgia grocery store late last month.

Felix Dassel told Waga-TV The attack happened around August 22 while he was shopping for groceries at the Kroger at the intersection of LaVista and North Druid Hills roads in Toco Hills, DeKalb County, around lunchtime.

‘I was picking bananas, and someone attacked me, and I was a little bit upset with the shock.’

Dassell told the station that a man hit him in the head with a soda can, causing a “pretty big bump.”

With that, Dassell ran toward the suspect and fought back, WAGA reported, citing a DeKalb County police report.

Investigators said the suspect then threw several objects at Dassel, the station reported, with Dassel adding that the suspect also threw punches and kicks.

However, Dassell noted to WAGA that when a Kroger employee saw what was happening, he and the attacker were told to leave the store — and the suspect left.

“I said, ‘I’m not leaving the store, I just got assaulted,'” Dassell told the station. “I was picking bananas, and someone attacked me, and I was a little bit upset with the shock.”

While the attack was caught on video, DeKalb County police and Kroger refused to release it, WAGA reported, and investigators have made no arrests.

The station noted the following statement from Kroger regarding the incident: “The safety and security of our customers and associates is our top priority. We work with local law enforcement upon request in all ongoing investigations.”

Dessel did not require a hospital visit after the attack, WAGA reported, but said he believes more needs to be done to protect customers.

“They need protection; something tragic is going to happen,” Dessell noted on the station. “I was able to pull it off, and I’m very happy about that. [The attacker] He needs to be locked up, and he needs medical, psychiatric help.”

Meanwhile, Dassell told WAGA that he is having a hard time sleeping as I review. [the attack]. The bruises will go away, though [pointing to his head] This is a different story.”
