Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday launched a scathing attack on opposition leader and Nationalist Congress Party (SP) chief Sharad Pawar and termed him the kingpin of corruption in the country.Addressing the BJP’s state conference in Pune, Shah accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of displaying arrogance despite losing the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. He also termed Shiv Sena (UBT) president Uddhav Thackeray as the head of ‘Aurangzeb fan club’ and said he is sitting with people seeking clemency for 1993 Mumbai serial blasts convict Yakub Memon.

He said the people of India have put their stamp of approval on the name of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the recent Lok Sabha elections. Shah said, “Rahul Gandhi’s arrogance will be shattered after our victory in the upcoming assembly elections in Maharashtra, Jharkhand and Haryana.” Taking a dig at the Shiv Sena (UBT) chief, Shah said, “Uddhav Thackeray is sitting with those who sought pardon for Yakub Memon, convicted in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts.”

He said, “What is Aurangzeb Fan Club? Those who feed biryani to (26/11 terror attack convict) Kasab, those who seek clemency for Yakub Memon, those who give peace ambassador award to (controversial Islamic preacher) Zakir Naik and those who support (banned Islamic organisation) PFI. Uddhav Thackeray should be ashamed to sit with these people.”

‘One should not be worried about the Lok Sabha elections in Maharashtra’

Praising the BJP workers, Shah said that they should not be worried about the Lok Sabha elections in Maharashtra. In Maharashtra, the BJP had won 23 Lok Sabha seats in 2019, which reduced to nine in the 2024 elections. He said that new energy can be transmitted in the state assembly elections by taking the good works and welfare schemes of the government to the people.

‘Every BJP worker in Maharashtra contributed to the party’s victory’

Shah said, ‘Every BJP worker in Maharashtra has contributed to the party’s victory. The BJP-led alliance will perform even better than 2019 and 2014 in the upcoming Maharashtra assembly elections. We will work harder and set new goals for ourselves. Saffron should wave again in Maharashtra.’ He praised Pune and called it the city of Bal Gangadhar Tilak.
