Amit Shah, CM Yogi or Nitin Gadkari, know who the public wants to see as PM Modi’s successor

This question has been arising for a long time among the supporters of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) that who after Modi? This question is also natural because Narendra Modi (75) has started his third term as Prime Minister after completing two terms (10 years). Meanwhile, India Today conducted the Mood of the Nation 2024 survey, in which an attempt was made to know who people want to see as PM after PM Modi.

India Today’s survey shows that more than 25 percent of people have preferred Amit Shah as a candidate for the post of PM. After him, people’s choice includes senior leaders like UP CM Yogi Adityanath and Road Transport-Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari.

CM Yogi and Gadkari in top 3

After Home Minister Amit Shah, UP CM Yogi Adityanath is the second most preferred person among the people. He has got 19% votes. Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari is the third most preferred person, who has got 13% votes.

Amit Shah is in the lead, but…

Apart from this, both Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan have got around 5 percent votes. Amit Shah is leading in this survey of India Today Group, but his ratings for February 2024 and August 2023 have declined.

Shah also has support in South India

In the last two surveys, 28 per cent and 29 per cent people chose Amit Shah as PM Modi’s successor. The August 2024 edition of the India Today Mood of the Nation Survey also revealed that more than 31 per cent of people in South India also believed that Amit Shah could be a good candidate as the next PM.

13% people prefer Gadkari

Amit Shah’s approval rating of 31 per cent in South India is the highest among all regions, while the support is 25 per cent across the country. Like Shah, the percentage of people supporting Yogi Adityanath as PM Modi’s successor has also decreased. Yogi Adityanath’s support dropped from 25 per cent in August 2023 to 24 per cent in February 2024. Now he is preferred by 19 per cent of the people as PM Modi’s successor. About 13 per cent of the people chose Nitin Gadkari as a possible alternative.

Rajnath Singh leads in latest survey

After the drop in the ratings of Amit Shah and Yogi Adityanath, the question arises that who benefited from the drop in their ratings. So the result of the survey of August 2024 shows that Rajnath Singh and Shivraj Singh Chauhan have benefited from it.

Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s popularity increased

According to the survey, Rajnath Singh’s popularity has increased by about 1.2 percentage points since August 2024. While the popularity of former Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan has increased significantly, rising from 2.9% in August 2023 to 5.4% in the latest survey. Chouhan’s rise as PM Modi’s successor has coincided with his appointment as the Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare in New Delhi. His popularity as the BJP’s PM candidate has surged after he joined the Modi 3.0 cabinet in June 2024. In the last two elections, he got 2% votes in February 2024 and 2.9% in August 2023.
