Amid threats from Iran, Hezbollah, and Houthis, US Defense Minister assures Israel of help

Tensions have increased in the Middle East after the killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Iran. Dozens of missiles were fired on Israel from Lebanon on Sunday amid Israel’s attack on Gaza. In such a situation, the US Defense Minister held talks with his Israeli counterpart amid the threat of war on many fronts.

US Defense Secretary Lloyd J. Austin spoke to Israeli counterpart Yoav Galant and reassured American support amid the possibility of threat from Iran.

Austin said that today I spoke to Israel’s Yoav Galant and expressed confidence in Israel’s right to self-defense in the face of threats from Iran, Lebanon’s Hezbollah, Houthis and other Iran-backed terrorist groups.

He said that I discussed with Defense Minister Gallant the importance of security of American security forces as well as efforts to end tension in the Middle East. I also expressed my support for the Gaza ceasefire.
