Amazing politics… People demanded justice for the brutality in Kolkata, in return got a calendar of protests

The uproar continues in Bengal over the rape and murder of a trainee doctor of Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical Hospital. This fight for justice is now caught in a political vortex between BJP, Trinamool Congress and TMC. After BJP’s 12-hour Bengal bandh on Wednesday, BJP is now preparing to hold a strong protest next week. On one hand, Congress has a protest march in Kolkata, while TMC has also announced to come out on the streets with full force.

Political parties are now face to face in this battle to get justice for the victim. One party’s dharna is being responded to by another party. In response to Bengal bandh, preparations are on for another bandh. In such a situation, the streets of Bengal will keep echoing with slogans and dharnas for the whole next week.

What is the calendar of protests?

After the uproar over the rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata increased, students protested at Nabanna on Tuesday. During this, the police used force on the protesters. They were beaten with sticks and tear gas shells were fired at them and when needed, water cannons were also used. BJP had called for a 12-hour bandh on Wednesday in protest against this police action on the protesters. During this time too, violence took place at many places. Incidents of country-made bombs and several rounds of firing took place.

Amidst all this, today on 29th August, BJP’s dharna is going on in Kolkata’s Esplanade. After this, on 30th August, BJP’s women wing is going to gherao the Women’s Commission.

BJP will gherao the District Magistrate offices on September 2. The party is going to stage a sit-in at the block office on September 4. On September 6, demonstrations will be held in every mandal of Bengal. Apart from this, BJP is preparing to hold three demonstrations in Kolkata. The first demonstration will be at Mamta Banerjee’s residence in Kalighat. The second demonstration will be at the State Secretariat Nabanna while the third demonstration will be at the Kolkata Police Headquarters. All these demonstrations will be held on the same day.

TMC’s response to BJP’s shutdown

Trinamool Congress (TMC) has decided that it will also give a befitting reply to BJP’s bandh by taking to the streets. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee herself announced that students supporting TMC will protest on 30 August. The party will protest in every block on 31 August. TMC’s Mahila Morcha will also protest on 1 September.

Mamata Banerjee demands that a strict law should be made against rape in the country. She had said that she will bring such a law in the assembly that will ensure justice in rape cases within 10 days and if the bill is not passed by the Raj Bhavan, then a protest will be held there too.
