All the injuries inflicted on the victim before death, rape confirmed, but no fracture… Detailed post-mortem report on Kolkata incident revealed

A post graduate trainee doctor was found dead in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata on 9 August 2024. She was raped and then murdered. Aaj Tak has got hold of the detailed postmortem report in this case, which reveals the brutality inflicted on the victim. According to the PM report, there were more than 14 injury marks on the body of the deceased. No fracture has been found.

Injuries were found on the head, both cheeks, lips (upper and inner), nose, right jaw, chin, neck (near and above the epiglottis), left arm, shoulder, knee, ankle and private parts. The external and internal genitals weighed 151 grams. The post-mortem report states that bleeding was observed in the lungs along with blood clots in several parts of the body. Viscera, blood and other samples collected have been sent to the lab for analysis.

The PM report states that all the injuries on the victim’s body and private parts were before her death. Based on the postmortem report, the medical officer has stated that the victim died due to strangulation with both hands. Medical evidence of forceful penetration has been found in her private parts. The possibility of sexual assault of the lady doctor has been mentioned in the PM report.

The Supreme Court has taken suo motu cognizance of the Kolkata incident. On August 20, a bench of CJI DY Chandrachud, Justice JB Pardiwala and Justice Manoj Mishra will hear the case. Although this case is at number 66 in the list of cases scheduled for hearing on Tuesday, there is a special mention that the bench will hear it on priority. A petition was filed on August 17 on this issue before the Supreme Court amid nationwide outrage and doctors’ strike. In this, it was requested to take suo motu cognizance of the brutality with the post graduate trainee doctor.
