‘All candidates from reserved categories should get the benefit of reservation’, CM Yogi told education department officials

UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that our government firmly believes that the benefit of reservation should be given to all the candidates of the reserved category, so that no candidate is treated unfairly. He directed the officials of the Basic Education Department to proceed as per the order of the Allahabad High Court, in which the state government has been asked to prepare a new selection list for the appointment of 69,000 assistant teachers within three months.

During a meeting with the officials of the Basic Education Department, CM Yogi Adityanath said that the government is of the clear opinion that the reservation facility provided by the Constitution should be availed by all the candidates of the reserved category and no injustice should be done to any candidate. According to the official statement, the Basic Education Department apprised the Chief Minister of all aspects of the court’s decision regarding the recruitment of 69,000 assistant teachers. CM Yogi directed the department to proceed on the basis of the comments made by the Supreme Court and the decision of the Lucknow Bench of Allahabad High Court.

In a recent judgment of the Allahabad High Court, a bench of Justice AR Masoodi and Justice Brijraj Singh had quashed the selection lists released in June 2020 and January 2022, which included 6,800 candidates from reserved categories. The bench also modified the earlier order and said that reserved category candidates who qualify for the general category merit list should be shifted to that category.

Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav targeted Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya over his recent remarks on the Allahabad High Court order. Akhilesh Yadav alleged that the “favourite deputy chief minister” is part of the government that took away reservation from the youth. He said that when they got justice after a long fight, he has come forward to present himself as their well-wisher.

Countering Akhilesh Yadav’s comment, Keshav Prasad Maurya alleged that the PDA of Congress’s pawn SP Bahadur is a big lie. In a post on X, Keshav Prasad Maurya had said that the Allahabad High Court’s decision in the recruitment of teachers is a welcome step towards social justice. This is the victory of those backward class people and Dalits who fought a long battle for their rights. I welcome them wholeheartedly.
