Ahmadi doctor killed in Pakistan, two gunmen shot him in clinic

An Ahmadi doctor has been murdered in Gujarat city of Pakistan. He was in his dental clinic when two unknown gunmen riding a bike shot him. It is suspected that he was murdered because he belonged to the Ahmadi community. Hatred towards the Ahmadi community is common in the neighboring country and violent incidents against this community are often reported.

Pakistan’s political organization Jamaat-e-Ahmadiyya condemned the murder of Dr. Zakour Ahmadi. The organization said that last month two other Ahmadis were also killed in Punjab because of their community.

Ahmadiya community is being targeted

Jamaat-e-Ahmadiyya Pakistan leader Amir Mahmood said that the recent decision of the Supreme Court of Pakistan to grant bail to an accused from the Ahmadiyya community has further intensified the hate campaign against the Ahmadiyya community. He said that people of the community are being targeted.

He asked, “Supreme Court judges are also being targeted in this hate campaign. The identity of those running these campaigns is no secret. Why is the government not taking any action against them?”

Pakistanis do not consider Ahmadis as Muslims

The Ahmadiyya community faces a lot of persecution and discrimination in Pakistan. In 1974, the Parliament of Pakistan declared the Ahmadiyya people as non-Muslims. A year later, the Ahmadi community was banned from calling themselves Muslims and promoting their community. Ahmadiyya people are also banned from going to Saudi Arabia for Haj pilgrimage.

According to official figures, Ahmadis make up only 0.09% of the population of Pakistan, which is predominantly Muslim by 96.47%. In conservative, Muslim-majority Pakistan, the minority community often complains of persecution by extremists.

The Jamaat-e-Ahmadiyya Pakistan official said that those behind these hate campaigns and instigators of violence against the Ahmadiyya community must be brought to justice to stop these faith-based killings.
