Punjab Police has arrested a Agniveer in a theft and snatching case. The accused Ishmeet Singh alias Ishu had joined the Indian Army in the year 2022. His brothers Prabhpreet Singh alias Prabh and Balkaran Singh, who worked for a taxi service, had robbed a cab driver by posing as passengers.
The three accused are between 18 and 22 years of age and are residents of Fazilka. They have studied till 12th class. Punjab Police has also informed the Army about the involvement of an Agniveer in this crime. Mohali Police has arrested three members of a gang involved in robbery and theft.

The police have recovered a stolen taxi, Swift Dzire, a Bullet motorcycle, an Activa scooter, a country-made pistol with two live cartridges and two stolen mobile phones from them. According to SSP Mohali, the accused were involved in several incidents of robbery and theft in the area.
They would book taxis through the app and then rob the drivers at gunpoint. An investigating officer revealed that Ishu was working in West Bengal since joining the Army in 2022. He came home on a month’s leave in May but did not return due to low salary.

“He (Eshu) was living away from his family. He was getting a meagre salary of Rs 20,000 and was unsure about his future. He did not want to return to the army. It seems he had made up his mind to enter the world of crime as he went to Kanpur to buy weapons which he used in the robbery,” the officer said.
Police have registered a case against the accused under sections 307 (theft after causing death or hurt), 308 (extortion), 125 (endangering human life), 61 (2) (criminal offence) of the Indian Penal Code and sections 25-54-59 of the Arms Act.
