BJP has once again stepped up its efforts to woo the backward classes in UP. The party is soon going to hold a big meeting with OBC leaders. Discussions will be held with OBC leaders in this meeting. UP government minister and state OBC Morcha president Narendra Kashyap said that the OBC community will be brought together and the reason for their displeasure will also be known. Kashyap also said that the organisation is bigger than the government.

BJP leader Narendra Kashyap said that the organization is bigger than the government. There is a government only if there is an organization. BJP is going to hold a meeting of the OBC Working Committee on July 29, in which senior BJP leaders including Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brijesh Pathak will participate. The agenda of the meeting is how to maintain the OBC vote bank and if OBCs have shifted elsewhere due to resentment, then how to bring them back. Kashyap said that due to the overconfidence of BJP workers and leaders, they have suffered losses in UP.

SP said- OBC’s future is in PDA

At the same time, Samajwadi Party leader Udayveer Singh has taken a dig at BJP over the meeting of OBC community. Udayveer said, no matter how much they try, OBC and backward have now understood that the future lies in PDA and BJP only does politics of fighting among themselves. These people are fighting among themselves. Officers are so dominant that the organization is not functioning. Udayveer Singh said that in the meeting of the Vidhan Mandal, the national president will decide who will be the leader of the opposition.

BJP suffered a big setback in the Lok Sabha elections

Actually, in the politics of Uttar Pradesh, every party tries to appease the backward class. When the results of the general elections came this time, it was said that the angry backward class has distanced itself from the BJP this time. Many discussions also started about this. In the Lok Sabha elections, BJP won 33 seats in UP. Whereas in the 2019 elections, it won 62 seats. Earlier in 2014, BJP had won 71 seats in UP. This time the displeasure of the backward class is also being considered an important reason for the weak performance. The population of backward class (OBC) in UP is about 50% of the total population, which is an important vote bank from the electoral point of view.

This time in UP Lok Sabha elections, SP has won the maximum number of 37 seats. Congress has won 6 seats. BJP’s ally RLD has won 2 seats and Apna Dal (S) has won 1 seat. BSP could not open its account.

Parties trying to woo OBCs

At the same time, the efforts of Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party to woo OBC communities are also becoming a challenge for BJP. Many OBC leaders resigned from the party and joined other parties including SP. OBC communities believe that BJP has not given adequate representation to them and there is a need to improve the party’s policy on reservation issues.

What is Akhilesh Yadav’s PDA?

The PDA (Backward, Dalit and Minority) formula suggested by SP President Akhilesh Yadav was seen as an important strategy against the BJP in the general elections. Under this formula, the Samajwadi Party aims to unite backward classes, Dalits and minorities. The aim of this strategy is to challenge the NDA with the support of these communities.
