After Rau’s IAS coaching incident, students are scared, their study expenses have doubled

A month has passed since the Rau’s IAS coaching centre accident in Old Rajendra Nagar, Delhi. The CBI is investigating the incident of the death of three UPSC aspirants in the basement of the coaching centre on 27 July. Traffic has become normal but police barricades are still installed right in front of Rau’s IAS coaching centre. Yes, now two motor pumps have been installed in front of the coaching centre which are being used in case of waterlogging. On the other hand, out of the 7 arrested accused, 1 has got bail and the rest are in police custody. But after this accident, new problems have arisen in front of the aspirants preparing for UPSC. The library fees have doubled from before.

After 3 deaths, students are paying double the fees for the library
After the death of three UPSC aspirants in Rouse IAS coaching center, the difficulties of the students have increased. Actually, the rest of the students who protested on 15th August have also started studying, but now their expenses have increased. UPSC aspirant Nitin Kumar, who was involved in the protest, says that earlier he had to pay a fee of five thousand rupees for self study in the library. Now it has doubled. Now he has to pay 10 thousand rupees. Apart from this, the room bill has also increased.

Nitin said that coaching from Rouse ended in January, so he was using the library for self-study and study environment. The library which used to be available for Rs 5000 earlier is now being charged Rs 10,000. Nitin further said that Wi-Fi, air conditioning and water are available in the library, which saves a lot of room expenses. Earlier, we used to go to the library at 8 in the morning and leave at night. Now most of the libraries are closed, so the room expenses have increased.

Action taken against 200 coaching centers in 1 month
After the accident, MCD has taken action against 200 coaching centres for violating building rules and has sealed them. These are the coaching centres whose basements were conducting classes or were being used for unauthorized work. During its survey campaign, MCD has inspected many things, especially the basements of coaching centres. During this time, if any activity is found, it is sealing the basements.

The PRO claims that this survey and sealing campaign is still going on. However, after the accident, the MCD claimed that encroachments will be removed from the road, drains will be cleaned and new pipelines will be laid by uprooting the old ones. The work of the new pipeline is incomplete. And water is not being able to drain out properly from it.

In July also a UPSC aspirant died due to electric shock
This year’s rain exposed many agencies. A UPSC aspirant died in Patel Nagar on 22 July this year. Jitendra Sahu, general secretary of Ranjit Nagar Resident Welfare Association, says that even before the accident, a complaint was made about the mess of wires but no one is taking any action.

Incidents of death due to electric shock in the season-

1. A 12-year-old boy died due to electric shock in Bindapur area.

2. 39-year-old Rajesh died due to electric shock in Prem Nagar area.

3. Poonam, 34, died of electric shock while trying to cross a waterlogged area.

4. A 26-year-old UPSC aspirant died while trying to cross a waterlogged area in Patel Nagar.

5. 30 year old Doman Kumar died due to electric shock in Karaujal Nagar.

6. Pramod died in Sadar Bazaar area of ​​the national capital as water accumulated outside his house got electrified.

7. 28-year-old Prabhat died due to electric shock at his home in Jaitpur area.

Cases of death due to drowning in waterlogging this season-

1. Tarun, age 7: Drowned in a park filled with water.

2. Uday 15 Years: Drowned in waterlogged area on DDA land.

3. Mayank, 17 years: Drowned in a waterlogged area on DDA land.

4. Tanuja Bhisth, 23: Died while trying to save her child who was drowning in an open drain.

5. Priyansh 3 years: Fell into an open drain.

6. 8 year old child: Died due to drowning in Usmanpur area.

7. 10 year-old boy: He died after drowning in rainwater that had accumulated up to a height of 5 feet in Usmanpur area.

8. Digvijay Kumar, 60 years: Died due to drowning in water filled Okhla underpass.

9. 3 UPSC aspirants: 3 UPSC aspirants died due to waterlogging in the basement of Roud IAS Coaching Centre in Rajendra Nagar.

2.5 crores funds received for new drainage system
Often after heavy rains, the problem of waterlogging is seen on the accident-prone Bada Bazar Road. The Delhi Municipal Corporation has sanctioned a fund of Rs 2.5 crore to build a new drainage system on this road and the surrounding area. However, the work has not started yet. The corporation has got time till March 2025 to complete this work. On the other hand, the storm water i.e. the drain has also not been cleaned. The construction of the drain for drainage of rain water on both sides of the road has not been completed. Slabs and drains are open at many places. Many low-lying areas were flooded even in the rain of August 29. Meanwhile, the Lieutenant Governor is visiting the drains. Sources say that on August 4, Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena visited Sunhari, Kushak and Barapula drains and ordered to clean them, then more than five thousand metric tons of silt came out.
