INS Brahmaputra: Indian Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi is arriving in Mumbai today to assess the damage to INS Brahmaputra. INS Brahmaputra has suffered major damage after the massive fire accident on Sunday evening, 21 July. It is docked at Naval Dockyard, Mumbai. The warship suffered major damage

The fire has caused extensive damage to the ship. According to the Navy, a junior sailor is missing after the fire incident on Sunday evening and rescue teams are trying to find him. “Army Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi has briefed Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on the fire incident on board Indian Naval Ship Brahmaputra and the damage caused by the incident,” Rajnath Singh’s office wrote on Twitter. The Defence Minister has prayed for the safety of the missing sailor, the office said. The ship is being repaired at the docks.

The Indian Navy’s multipurpose warship INS Brahmaputra caught fire on the evening of 21 July when it was undergoing repairs at the naval dockyard in Mumbai. The ship’s crew, with the help of firefighters, brought the fire under control by the morning of 22 July. However, the warship tilted to one side (towards the port) after the fire incident.

INS Brahmaputra is tilting

The official press release issued by the Navy said that despite all efforts, the ship could not be straightened. The ship is tilting further near its berth (anchor) and is currently resting on one side. The press release said that all the personnel except a junior sailor have been traced and the search for the missing sailor is on. The Indian Navy has ordered an investigation into the accident.
