West Bengal, Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on Saturday wrote a letter to President Draupadi Murmu alleging that there is a chaotic situation in West Bengal. He demanded President Murmu’s intervention to restore law and order in the state. In his letter, Adhir Ranjan mentioned election-related violence and alleged attacks on party workers during this year’s general elections.

In a two-page letter, Chowdhury wrote, “I seek your intervention to restore decorum and law and order in public life in West Bengal. For me at a personal level, it is not only disturbing but also extremely painful to see the chaotic situation in the state, which is due to the brutal attitude of the ruling party towards the workers, supporters and sympathisers of the Opposition. This resulted in the death of many innocent people and their imprisonment or detention.” He alleged that this resulted in the death of many innocent people.

Mentioned the Sandeshkhali incident

Chowdhury said, there are many cases where people who are not associated with the ruling party and have inclination towards opposition parties have lost their jobs or livelihood due to the highhandedness of the ruling party. He also referred to the ‘Sandeshkhali incident’ and clashes in Murshidabad district before the Lok Sabha elections and alleged that all this was done to polarize voters. He said, opposition party members and workers suffered a lot due to the terror spread by the ruling party in West Bengal before the Lok Sabha elections, but a matter of deep concern which needs immediate attention is the continuation of violence after the elections in West Bengal and intimidation of opposition workers.

Undeclared emergency in West Bengal

Chowdhury, a senior Congress leader, also referred to the killing of a party worker in Jalpaiguri last week and alleged that there was absolutely no place for the opposition in the state. “At present, it is certainly a situation of undeclared emergency in the state, where exercising fundamental rights has become almost impossible,” he said. “Considering the facts of the situation prevailing in West Bengal, I sincerely request you as the head of the nation to ensure justice to the people. Your intervention in restoring order in West Bengal is eagerly awaited,” he said.
