Actress Mimi Chakravarti received rape threats for sharing a post against the Kolkata incident

Doctors’ protest continues over the Kolkata rape and murder case. Meanwhile, the CBI investigation is going on in the case. Amidst all this, former Trinamool Congress MP and actress Mimi Chakraborty said on Tuesday that after posting about the Kolkata case, she is being sent rape threats and obscene messages. Mimi has posted about this on X, in which she has also tagged the cyber cell department of Kolkata Police.

Mimi wrote, “And we are demanding justice for women, right? This is some of them. Where rape threats have been normalised by masked men in the crowd who say they stand with women. What upbringing and education allows this?”

Let us tell you that Mimi Chakraborty was an MP from Jadavpur Lok Sabha constituency from 2019 to 2024. The actress also personally participated in a protest against the rape and murder of a doctor in Kolkata. Apart from Mimi, actresses like Riddhi Sen, Arindam Sil and Madhumita Sarkar participated in the protest held on the night of 14 August.

What is the whole matter?

This tragic incident took place on 9 August, when a graduate trainee doctor was raped and murdered at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The victim’s body was found in the seminar hall of the hospital the next morning. The post-mortem report revealed that the victim had 14 serious injury marks on her body. The victim’s death report revealed that she was strangled.

Kolkata Police arrested the accused Sanjay Roy immediately after the body was found. He was reportedly seen entering the building where the incident took place. There is a wave of protest among the doctor community across the country regarding this matter. They are continuously protesting across the country. They are demanding the government to bring an ordinance under which their safety will be ensured.

CBI has got permission to conduct polygraph test of accused Sanjay Roy. The investigating agency had filed an application in the court. Earlier, the agency had conducted psychological test of the accused. Now the polygraph test will reveal how much truth and how much lie the accused is telling.
