Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s film ‘Darr’ (1993) has become a classic film. In this film directed by Yash Chopra, Shah Rukh played the role of Rahul Mehra, a villain obsessed with a girl, in such a way that it is difficult to imagine any other actor in this role today.
But in this Sunny Deol and Juhi Chawla starrer film, the villain’s role was initially offered to Bollywood’s Mr. Perfectionist Aamir Khan instead of Shahrukh. Yash Chopra had tried to cast Aamir in the role of Rahul Mehra before Shahrukh, but he was not successful in this task. A few years ago, during a Canada tour, Aamir Khan had told Sushma Dutt in an interview that he was not working in ‘Darr’. Aamir Khan had said that he liked the story of the film and he also wanted to work with Yash Chopra. But he had one condition which the director was unable to fulfill.
Aamir said, ‘I liked the story very much and Yash Chopra is a very good director. But I have a principle, you can call it a policy. If I am working in a film which has more than one hero, then I ask the director for joint narration. I prefer that the director narrates the story to both the heroes together.’

Talking about another two-hero project of his, Aamir said, ‘Even in ‘Andaz Apna Apna’, Salman (Khan) and I were given a joint narration. This approach ensures that both of us are satisfied with our characters and also prevents any issue from being created later. I like working this way. But in this case, it was not possible. Yash ji did not think that he should give a joint narration. On this basis, I was removed from the project.’
Sunny Deol got upset due to the same reason that Aamir left the film
Let us tell you, Yash Chopra cast Shahrukh in place of Aamir and the film was a huge hit. But after ‘Darr’, the relationship between Sunny Deol and Shahrukh Khan became a little sour. Reports say that Sunny Deol was not happy that the villain of the film Shahrukh was given more screen time than him. He had vowed in an interview that he would never work with Yash Chopra again.
Things changed between Shahrukh and Sunny when ‘Gadar 2’ became a big hit last year. Shahrukh was seen hugging Sunny at the success party of this film. In a TV interview, Sunny had said that the misunderstanding that happened between him and Shahrukh should not have happened and it was ‘childishness’.
Talking about Shahrukh, now he will be seen in the action entertainer ‘King’ with his daughter Suhana Khan. While Sunny’s another iconic film ‘Border’ is going to have a sequel, in which Ayushmann Khurrana is also with him. Sunny Deol is also going to be seen in the role of Lord Hanuman in Ranbir Kapoor’s ‘Ramayana’.
