Last Saturday, the body of a young man was found hanging from a noose in the district jail in Mau district of Uttar Pradesh under suspicious circumstances. Officials said that he was accused in a kidnapping and rape case and in the initial investigation it seems that he has committed suicide. Police is investigating the matter.
Officials said that the body of an undertrial prisoner lodged in Mau district jail was found hanging from a noose. The deceased’s name is Mukesh Yadav (24) and he was a resident of Ballia district. He was accused in a case of kidnapping and rape.
According to news agency PTI, Mau’s Area Officer Anjani Kumar Pandey said that prima facie it seems that he has committed suicide. The body has been sent for post-mortem. Further investigation is being done in this case.
A prisoner committed suicide in Unnao jail
Earlier, a rape accused lodged in Unnao district jail had committed suicide by hanging himself. His body was found hanging from a tree. He was in jail for eight years on rape charges. He was sent to jail in 2016 and was in jail since then. The SP had told that a case was going on against the prisoner under rape and POCSO Act and he committed suicide behind the barrack on Saturday night.
