A 27-year-old boy died under mysterious circumstances in police custody in Bantalab area of Jammu. The family of the deceased alleges that the police brutally beat him up in custody, which led to his death. After this incident, the relatives of the deceased blocked the road and protested against the police. Senior police officials have ordered an investigation into the matter.
According to the information, Shubham Sharma, who lives in Bantalab area of Jammu, was playing cricket near his house on Sunday evening. At the same time, a police team reached there in search of drug smugglers. The police took Shubham into custody. The family members alleged that the police beat him badly in custody. After this, he was taken to the hospital in critical condition, where he died during treatment.
On hearing the news of Shubham Sharma’s death, his family members rushed to the hospital, but due to postmortem, his body was not handed over to them. After this, they blocked the main road in Bantalab on Monday morning, demanding an investigation into the incident and justice. On receiving information about this, senior police officers reached the spot. They dispersed the protesters by assuring an investigation.

Let us tell you that last month in Pulwama also a person died in police custody. The name of the deceased was Imtiaz Ahmed Palla. He was the father of three children including two daughters. According to the police, he was arrested for being involved in drug trafficking. Imtiaz’s condition deteriorated in custody and he was taken to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
After getting this information, the family of the deceased raised questions. They claimed that the police first picked up Imtiaz and then killed him after torturing him. They demanded an independent and impartial investigation of the incident. The administration had ordered a magisterial inquiry. An official said that after Imtiaz’s death in police custody, a magisterial inquiry was ordered under Section 176 of the CrPC.
