Everyone is saddened after the suicide of Saharanpur jeweler Saurabh Babbar. A condolence meeting was organized in the city lawn yesterday. A large number of people attended it and tried to console the family of the deceased. During this, those businessmen also reached the condolence meeting, who owed money to Saurabh. After the condolence meeting, people were taking the name of ‘Bada Saraf Vyapari’ in hushed voices. It is being said that the son of this Saraf businessman fled to Dubai with Saurabh’s Rs 7 crore.
According to the information received, Saurabh Babbar had formed a committee named Sai 8 years ago, which initially had 20 members and later increased to 25 members. All the members of Sai committee used to help poor people together. The people of the committee used to do public service works like organizing bhandaras, distributing free rations, donating in daughter’s wedding.
Vinay Chhabra, a member of Sai committee, said that Saurabh had met him recently. All the members used to give ₹5000 every month in the name of the committee. On August 9, Saurabh came to me and gave me 1 lakh rupees collected by the committee. The total amount to be given to the committee was 1 lakh 45 thousand. But he said that 45 thousand is still left.
One question on everyone’s lips: Why did Saurabh do this?
In the condolence meeting, everyone was talking about why Saurabh Babbar did this? He should not have taken such a big step. He should have thought about his child and home. However, the debtors were also worried about their money. They were afraid that the money deposited in the committee system would go down the drain. The committee’s time was over, the money was to be received on 12 August. But before that, troubled by the burden of debt, Saurabh, along with his wife, jumped into the Ganga and died. So far, the body of Saurabh’s wife Mona has not been found.
A person said that I had given some gold items to his shop for repair, which included two bangles. The price was around 2 lakhs. He had asked me to take them back on the 12th, but before that Saurabh committed suicide. We had given the gold in front of Saurabh’s servant whose name is Golu. We are trying to talk to Golu, but right now we are not able to understand anything. Don’t know what will happen now.
Who is this ‘big jeweler merchant’?
Another story came to light at Saurabh Babbar’s condolence meeting. The name of ‘Bada Saraf Vyapari’ was coming up repeatedly on people’s tongues. It is being told that Saurabh Babbar used to work with a big Saraf Vyapari and used to buy gold from this big trader and give it to the committee members. Gold was yet to be given to more than 100 members, for which gold worth about Rs 7 crore was booked from Bada Saraf Vyapari. But the trader’s son went to Dubai a few days ago with all the money. After this, the Saraf Vyapari refused to return the money to Saurabh for the time being.
Servant Golu gave this information
At the same time, people also say that Golu, who works for Saurabh Babbar, knows every secret. He knew everyone who came and went to the shop. Maybe he also knew the ‘big jeweler businessman’. However, when the ‘Aaj Tak’ team tried to talk to Golu, he said that I know Saurabh Babbar Bhaiya since he opened the jewellery shop 12 years ago. Saurabh Bhaiya came to me at 2:00 in the night of 9 August and gave me the keys of the shop and left. I used to stay at Saurabh Bhaiya’s shop the whole day and went to my house to sleep at night. Saurabh Bhaiya came to my house to give me the keys and after that he went missing. Saurabh Bhaiya was running the committee for a long time and everything was going well, I don’t know what kind of depression it was that Bhaiya had to do this.
According to Golu- We used to run a gold committee which is also called kitty committee, in which a member gives ₹2000 every month. 6-7 committees were running like this. In this, whoever’s committee was opened first, he was given gold worth ₹25000 and after that his committee ended there. Bhaiya used to buy gold from the market and take payment, I don’t know from whom he used to buy more goods because Bhaiya himself used to talk on the phone. I used to just go and get the money and get gold from whomever Bhaiya used to tell.
Till now nothing has been found about Bhabhi (Mona). Before this incident, Bhaiya had sent me two photos and audio on WhatsApp, the photo was of Haridwar bridge and in the audio he was saying that Golu, show this to everyone, we are leaving this world. Bhaiya never let us feel how depressed he was from inside.
