A fugitive former mayor of the Philippines has been arrested in Indonesia

Manila, Philippines – A Fugitive ex-mayor in Philippines A man accused of links to a Chinese crime syndicate has been arrested in IndonesiaManila’s Justice Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.

Alice Guo, also known as Chinese national Guo Hua Ping, is wanted by the Philippine Senate for refusing to attend a congressional investigation into her alleged criminal ties. She has denied the allegations, insisting she is a natural-born Philippine citizen facing “malicious allegations”.

“This development has been verified by our counterparts in immigration, who have confirmed that Ms. Guo is currently in the custody of the Indonesian police at the Jatnaras Mabes Polri,” the Philippine Department of Justice said in a statement.

Guo was arrested near midnight on Tuesday in the city of Tangerang in Jakarta, Indonesia, the department said.

Philippine law enforcement agencies, including the Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC), last month jointly filed multiple counts of money laundering with the Department of Justice against Guo and 35 others.

The AMLC alleged that Guo and his co-conspirators laundered more than 100 million pesos ($1.8 million) from criminal activities.

Lawyer Stephen David, Guo’s counsel on the record, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Guo, who was ousted as mayor of Bamban town in Tarlac province, fled the country in July and traveled to Malaysia and Singapore, then Indonesia in August, using his Philippine passport, the Philippines’ anti-crime agency said.

The Senate investigation began in May after authorities raided a casino in the town of Bamban in March, law enforcement officials said, adding that the scams were carried out from a facility built on land partially owned by the mayor.
