The multi-starrer series ‘IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack’ released on Netflix is ​​making headlines. This series, full of amazing actors like Vijay Verma, Naseeruddin Shah, Pankaj Kapoor and Manoj Pahwa, got great reviews. However, there was a lot of controversy when the names of the hijackers were called ‘Bhola’ and ‘Shankar’ in the show.

But do you know that even before ‘IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack’, a film has been made on the Kandahar hijack? Director Anubhav Sinha’s series depicts the story of the hijacking of IC 814 flight in 1999. During this time, an Indian plane was hijacked from Kathmandu, Nepal and then landed at different locations. Finally, it reached Kandahar, Afghanistan. In 2010, a Malayalam film was made on this entire incident, in which Amitabh Bachchan acted.

The name of this Malayalam film was ‘Kandahar’. Malayalam cinema superstar Mohanlal played the lead role in this film. Its director was Major Ravi. Amitabh Bachchan did an extended cameo in this film, for which he did not charge any fee. Amitabh also talked about this in the year 2010. He called Mohanlal one of the best talents of Malayalam cinema.

Amitabh did not take any fees

Amitabh had written, ‘They (Mohan and Ravi) came to my house to officially sign me for the film and give me payment. Yes! Payment? Fees? Wages? For a three-day guest appearance? With Mohanlal, whom I have always respected the most? No, no. I don’t take money for such things.’

He further wrote, ‘I accepted his offer with respect. I gave him homemade tea, shook hands, hugged him and bid him farewell. That film was probably shot in Ooty. A beautiful and peaceful hill station situated in the beautiful Nilgiri range of mountains towards the south.’

In the film ‘Kandahar’, Amitabh Bachchan played the role of a father whose son joins the army. The soldier loses his life while trying to get the hijackers out of the flight. Along with him, Mohanlal’s character, who plays a senior officer, also loses his life. The makers of this film have faced criticism for their script.
