More than 5 crore cases are pending in courts across the country, know the situation in UP

Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal replied in Parliament regarding the pending cases in courts across the country. According to the written reply of the Law Minister, more than five crore cases are pending in various courts of India, out of which the highest number of cases are pending in the subordinate courts of Uttar Pradesh. More than 1.18 crore cases are pending in the courts of UP.

Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal said that 84,045 cases are pending in the Supreme Court, while 60,11,678 cases are pending in various High Courts. According to the Law Minister, the highest number of 4,53,51,913 cases are pending in the district and subordinate courts.

According to Arjun Ram Meghwal- There are many reasons for the pendency of cases in courts, including availability of physical infrastructure and staff, complexity of the facts involved, cooperation of stakeholders including investigating agencies, witnesses and litigants. Proper application of rules and procedures also plays an important role.

The Law Minister further said that other reasons for delay in disposal of cases include absence of timelines prescribed by courts for disposal of different types of cases, frequent adjournments and lack of adequate mechanisms to monitor, track and group cases for hearing.

According to the news agency, Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal said in Parliament that the central government is a party to about seven lakh court cases, in which the Defense and Finance Ministries are at the top. In a written reply to a question, Meghwal said that a total of 6,98,904 cases are pending in the courts, in which various ministries and departments are parties.
