Rahul Gandhi At Sultanpur Court: Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi will appear in Sultanpur’s Member of Parliament-MLA (MP/MLA) court today on July 26 in a defamation case. Rahul Gandhi left from Indira Gandhi International Airport to go to Sultanpur court this morning. The case is related to alleged objectionable remarks on Union Home Minister Amit Shah in 2018. Congress district unit president Abhishek Singh Rana had told on Thursday that Rahul Gandhi will land at Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport in Lucknow at 9 am on July 26. From there he will leave for Sultanpur by car and appear in the court.

Local BJP leader Vijay Mishra had filed a defamation case against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on August 4, 2018, accusing him of making objectionable remarks against then BJP president and current Home Minister Amit Shah in Bengaluru in 2018. The court had granted bail to Rahul Gandhi in this case on February 20.

5 and a half years ago, during the Karnataka assembly elections, Rahul Gandhi made an objectionable statement against the then BJP President and Union Home Minister Amit Shah in a press conference. Against this statement, Sultanpur BJP District Vice President Vijay Mishra had filed a complaint against Rahul Gandhi. Vijay Mishra had filed a defamation case against Rahul Gandhi in the year 2018. The court accepted the petition and ordered to prosecute Rahul Gandhi. Rahul Gandhi had stopped his ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ in Amethi on 20 February 2024 in this case and appeared in the MP-MLA court, where he got bail. According to Santosh Kumar Pandey, lawyer of BJP leader Vijay Mishra, if sufficient evidence is found against Rahul Gandhi, he can be sentenced to a maximum of two years.

Earlier, Rahul Gandhi was supposed to appear in court on July 2 in connection with this defamation case. However, Rahul Gandhi could not appear in court then. Rahul Gandhi’s lawyer told the court that the Lok Sabha session was going on, so Rahul Gandhi could not reach. After this, Rahul’s lawyer asked for a date of July 26.
