The games will run until August 11, featuring a total of 329 events across 32 sports, with participation from approximately 10,500 athletes representing 206 National Olympic Committees.

Opening Ceremony Highlights

The opening ceremony will take place along the Seine River, marking the first time the event is held outside of a traditional stadium. Athletes will parade in boats along a nearly four-mile route, showcasing iconic Paris landmarks such as the Louvre and Notre-Dame Cathedral. The ceremony is expected to attract around 600,000 spectators, with an estimated one billion viewers tuning in globally. French President Emmanuel Macron is anticipated to officially open the Games.

Schedule of Events

While the opening ceremony is today, some preliminary competitions began on July 24, including events in archery, football (soccer), handball, and rugby sevens. The full schedule of events includes:

  • Swimming: July 27 – August 4
  • Track and Field: August 1 – August 11, culminating in the marathon, which traditionally concludes the athletics program.

New and Notable Events

The Paris 2024 Olympics will also feature the debut of breakdancing as an Olympic event, alongside new formats in athletics, boxing, canoe slalom, sailing, shooting, and sport climbing. Notably, the marathon race walk mixed relay will replace the men’s 50km race walk event.

Venues

Events will be held across 35 venues in and around Paris, including historic sites like the Eiffel Tower and the Grand Palais. This edition of the Olympics is particularly significant as it marks the centenary of the last time Paris hosted the Games in 1924.

As the world tunes in to witness this grand celebration of sportsmanship, the Paris 2024 Olympics are set to be a memorable chapter in Olympic history.
