Talking about this during the promotion of the film Ryan, Dhanush expressed surprise and said- If I had known that buying a house in Poes Garden would become such a big issue, I would have taken a small apartment instead. Should a person like me not buy a house in Poes Garden? Should a person born on the street live there till the end of his life?

Dhanush further explained why he wanted to buy a house in Poes Garden. He said – There is a small story behind buying a house in Poes Garden. One day, when I was 16 years old and was roaming on a bike with my friend, I wanted to see Thalaiva Rajinikanth’s house. With the help of passersby and policemen, we saw his house, saw it happily and left from there. While returning on the bike, we saw that there was a lot of crowd on the other side, although Thalaiva’s house was on this side. On asking, people told that it was Jayalalitha’s house. I saw both the houses. At that time a wish grew in my mind, at least there should be a small house in Poes Garden.

Dhanush further said- We were struggling a lot at that time. If Thulluvadho Ilamai (which was Dhanush’s first film as an actor and was directed by his father Kasthuri Raja and written by his brother Selvaraghavan) had not been successful, we would have had to live on the streets. The house I bought in Poes Garden after 20 years of hard work was gifted by Dhanush to then 16-year-old Venkatesh Prabhu.
