Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Tuesday accused the opposition of trying to create “anarchy” and unrest using the NEET-UG issue and said the Supreme Court’s verdict on the controversial exam was “a victory of truth”. Pradhan said the opposition should apologise to students and their parents for misleading them.

The minister said that the National Examination Agency will declare the final results of NEET-UG in two days. He said that the merit list of the exam will be revised as per the comments of the apex court. In a major setback to the unsuccessful candidates of NEET-UG 2024, the Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed the petitions seeking cancellation and re-conduct of this controversial exam. Along with this, the court said that there is no material on record to show compromise in its sanctity and other irregularities.

This is an interim decision of the court and a detailed decision will be announced later. This interim decision has given a big relief to the Central Government and the National Examination Agency (NTA), which is facing strong criticism and protest from the streets to the Parliament over the alleged irregularities including question paper leak in the examination held on May 5.

Pradhan, while welcoming the apex court’s decision at a press conference here, said, “Satyameva Jayate. Truth has prevailed.” He said, “The apex court, while rejecting the petitions seeking cancellation of NEET-UG and re-examination, said that there is no evidence on record from which it can be concluded that the sanctity of the examination has been compromised. Today’s decision on NEET-UG will put an end to speculations and provide relief to lakhs of hardworking and honest students.

Pradhan said the central government has been saying there has been no large-scale leak

Pradhan said the Central government has been maintaining that there has been no large-scale leak and the Supreme Court has also upheld it. He said the government will not tolerate any lapses and “sanctity of examinations is of paramount importance to us”. The Education Minister said if anyone is found involved in any irregularity in the examinations, he or she will not be spared.
