‘Ban on entry of people holding constitutional posts into politics…’ Bill to be presented in Rajya Sabha

monsoon session of parliament, The monsoon session of Parliament is starting from 22 July i.e. Monday. This session will continue till 12 August. During this period, 23 private bills have been listed to be introduced in the Rajya Sabha. These include bills like ban on entry of persons holding constitutional posts in politics, Artificial Intelligence, Deepfake and amendment in Citizenship Act.

The most important and discussed bill among these is related to the ban on joining any political party after retirement of persons holding constitutional posts like judges. This bill has been listed by Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP AD Singh. Apart from this, other private bills have also been brought after recent controversies.

Abhijit Gangopadhyay’s case was in discussion

According to sources, the Constitution (Amendment) Bill, 2024 listed by RJD MP AD Singh aims to prevent those retiring from constitutional posts such as judges and election commissioners from joining political parties after retirement. Actually, the controversy related to this is related to Calcutta High Court judge Abhijit Gangopadhyay, who resigned from his judicial post on March 5 and joined the BJP within two days. At the same time, in July, former Madhya Pradesh High Court judge Rohit Arya joined the BJP three months after his retirement. Another bill listed by the RJD MP seeks amendment to the Indian Code of Justice (BNS) to include rape of a wife by a husband as a crime.

These MPs also listed the bills

Communist Party of India (Marxist) MP V. Sivadasan has listed two bills. Trinamool Congress MP Mausam Noor has also listed two bills. One of these aims to protect the rights of employees from artificial intelligence while the other seeks to make deepfakes a crime. P. Sandhosh Kumar of the Communist Party of India (CPI) has listed a bill to create an Artificial Intelligence Technology Regulatory Authority.
