British Monarch Reaches Out to Former US President Following Pennsylvania Rally Attack

King Charles III has reached out to former President Donald Trump with a personal letter following a failed assassination attempt during one of his campaign rallies in Pennsylvania. The 75-year-old monarch extended his well-wishes to Trump after the alarming incident, which left the former president with a bloodied ear.

Although the exact contents of the king’s message remain undisclosed, it is understood that the letter aligns with statements made by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. In his conversation with Trump, Starmer condemned the violence, expressed condolences for the victims and their families, and wished the former president and those injured a quick recovery.

The king’s message was delivered on Sunday via the British embassy in Washington, emphasizing the solidarity between the United Kingdom and the United States during challenging times. Buckingham Palace confirmed that the correspondence will be kept private.

Trump, who described King Charles as a “wonderful man” earlier this year, said he survived the assassination attempt “by luck or by God”. The former president claimed that he turned to look at a screen displaying immigration statistics at the exact moment the bullet was fired, narrowly avoiding a direct hit.

The assassination attempt, which killed one person and critically injured two others, was the most serious attempt to target a U.S. president or presidential candidate since Ronald Reagan was shot in 1981. The gunman, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, was shot dead by the Secret Service.

Trump, who is set to address the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee on Monday, said he wants to “bring the country together” in the wake of the attack. The former president and King Charles have previously met during Trump’s state visit to the U.K. in 2019, where they discussed climate change and developed a “good working relationship”.
