Last Updated on 14/07/2024 by wccexam Desk

Donald Trump was compared to former President Theodore Roosevelt after gunshots were fired during the 2024 presidential candidate’s rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday. A bullet appeared to have grazed the 78-year-old’s right ear, and he was seen clutching his neck and collapsing immediately after the gunshots were heard. [However, Trump stood up and pumped his fist before being escorted off the stage.

Comparisons to Teddy Roosevelt

Minutes after the incident, Elon Musk formally announced his endorsement for Donald Trump, stating “Last time America had a candidate this tough was Theodore Roosevelt.” Other social media users also likened Trump to Roosevelt, with one person tweeting “That’s some high tier Teddy Roosevelt Bull Moose energy right there. Took a bullet and a stood right back up.”

The comparisons to Roosevelt stem from a similar incident in 1912 when the former president was giving a speech in Milwaukee and revealed that he had been shot. “Friends, I shall ask you to be as quiet as possible. I don’t know whether you fully understand that I have just been shot,” Roosevelt had said, before unbuttoning his vest to reveal his bloodstained shirt. He then famously quipped, “It takes more than that to kill a bull moose.”
