A Sukhoi Superjet 100 passenger plane crashed near the city of Kolomna, outside Moscow, on July 12, 2024, killing all three crew members on board.
The plane, which belonged to the Gazprom Avia company, was on its way to Moscow’s Vnukovo airport after a regular technical evaluation and repair work. The aircraft, manufactured in 2014, crashed in a wooded area near Kolomna.
According to Russian emergency officials, there were no casualties beyond the three crew members. A probe has been launched into the “violation of safety regulations aboard aircraft that led to deaths.”
The Sukhoi Superjet 100 is Russia’s first passenger plane developed since the Cold War. This crash marks the third incident involving the regional jet since its introduction in 2008. Previous crashes occurred during a demonstration flight in Indonesia, killing 45 people, and while landing at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo airport, resulting in 41 fatalities.
