The country’s auto sector is rapidly becoming technologically strong. And this wave of technology is seen reaching the fields via the road. Now the country’s leading tractor manufacturer Mahindra Tractors has introduced the first Compressed Biogas (CBG) tractor. The company has named this new tractor Mahindra Yuvo Tech+. Union Road and Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari was also present on the occasion of the launch of this tractor equipped with a powerful engine and state-of-the-art technology.
How is Mahindra Yuvo Tech+:
In looks and design, it is similar to a normal tractor and its mechanism also functions like a diesel tractor. The difference is that biogas will be used instead of diesel as fuel. Currently, it is in the concept stage and it will take some time for the production ready model to come. Mahindra is working on this tractor so that it can be made more accessible and affordable for the farmers of the country in the coming time.
It is being claimed about the Mahindra Yuvo Tech+ CBG tractor that it is capable of delivering power and performance equal to that of conventional diesel tractor technology. Also, it is fully prepared to handle farming and transportation tasks. The company said in an official statement that the CBG tractor technology aims to benefit both the farming community and the environment. Mahindra CBG tractor is expected to reduce pollution and carbon emissions.
What is biogas?
Biogas is a source of energy that can be used many times. It can also be used for domestic and agricultural purposes. The main components of this gas are hydro-carbons and methane, which are flammable and release energy when burned. Biogas is produced by a biochemical process. When biodegradable material such as food, plants and other waste materials are rotted, certain types of bacteria convert organic waste into biogas. This gas is produced by a biological process, so it is called biological gas.
There is immense potential for better production of biogas in India. But it is equally important to develop the infrastructure to use this gas in a vehicle. Apart from Mahindra, Maruti Suzuki is also working on manufacturing a car that runs on biogas. The company had also showcased it as Wagon R (CBG) in the last Auto Expo. But biogas will not prove useful in daily life for the auto sector until it is available everywhere like the commonly sold CNG.
Mahindra’s CBG tractor is currently in the initial stage. A source associated with this project of the company says that the technology is ready and the infrastructure is awaited. That is, as soon as biogas becomes available for use in commercial vehicles, this tractor will also be available for sale. Mahindra is constantly working towards bringing changes in the agriculture sector with its new technology. In the last few years, the company has showcased tractors running on CNG, LPG and dual-fuel apart from diesel.
