Shaila Rani Rawat, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Kedarnath Shaila Rani Rawat died at Max Hospital late on Tuesday night. She was 68 years old. Family sources gave this information. Rawat was on ventilator in the hospital for the last few days. She was admitted to the hospital after suffering a spinal injury. Rawat made it to the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly for the first time in 2012 by winning the election from Kedarnath seat on a Congress ticket. However, Rawat lost the election in 2017, but in 2022 she was once again elected MLA from Kedarnath on a BJP ticket. Rawat was among the 10 Congress MLAs who rebelled against former Chief Minister Harish Rawat in 2016 and joined the BJP.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has expressed grief over the death of Shaila Rani Rawat. CM Dhami wrote on Twitter that he received the very painful news of the death of popular MLA from Kedarnath Assembly, Smt. Shaila Rani Rawat ji. Her departure is an irreparable loss for the party and the people of the area. Her dedication to duty and public service will always be remembered.
