Where is this oil made?
Hakki Pikki is a tribal community in the forest areas of West and South India (Karnataka) which hunts animals and birds. It is a scheduled tribe of Karnataka and is historically considered to be related to Rana Pratap Singh.
When hunting was banned due to the wildlife law, the people there started making many things from natural ingredients. One of them was ‘Adivasi Hair Oil’. Being made from natural ingredients, it became a topic of discussion and today many people sell this oil and claim it to be beneficial for hair.
What are the benefits of Adivasi Hair Oil?
The speciality and some benefits of this oil are mentioned on the official website of Adivasi Hair Oil. They say that their ancestors have been making this oil at home for themselves for more than 5 generations. Their oil does not contain parabens, silicones or paraffins. It is being said that their oil is beneficial in eliminating dandruff, strengthening hair, growing hair on the head of bald people and preventing hair fall.
Why are people believing it?
Celebrities and influencers are advertising this oil and influencing people to use it, so many people must be thinking that they should try it. On the other hand, the price of this oil is 999, 1499 and 3000 rupees for 250, 500, 1000 ml respectively. Now in such a situation, people feel that when the oil is so expensive, it will definitely be beneficial.
How did this oil become so famous?
Every celebrity-influencer’s way of influencing is the same – they go to Bangalore and tour the factories where this oil is made. At the same time, they also post photos of this oil on their social media platforms, which comes to the attention of the people.
In the advertisement of this oil, men and women with long hair are shown. This attracts everyone’s attention towards the men and women with long hair seen in the advertisement. Now in such a situation, everyone wants long, thick and black hair, so they also read about it and talk to other people.
But we don’t know if the people who are advertising it have ever used it or not. Many people are not satisfied with the benefits of this oil and are calling it a scam. This has made this oil even more viral.
What do the experts say?
If the hair oil sellers have long and shiny hair, then it is not surprising. If this oil is made by the Hakki Pikki community of Karnataka, then their ancestors’ roots are connected to the forest and the things obtained from there. Being so close to nature, their black, long and thick hair may also be due to their genetics and the food and environment there.
The lifestyle of the people there is quite different from the urban lifestyle. There is no pollution there, the use of natural products has a positive effect on their hair. Therefore, it is possible that their hair is like this naturally and not just by applying oil. Let’s know what the experts have to say on the claims of tribal hair oil.
grow hair on bald scalp
Dr Sayyad Ajara T Hamid, Consultant Dermatologist and Hair Transplant Surgeon at The Eternal Clinic, Powai, Mumbai, told India Today, ‘Baldness or men’s hair baldness is the most common baldness in men in which men start losing hair around the temples and their hairline starts rising. Many factors like prostaglandin imbalance, inflammation in the hair roots, genetics, improper nutrition are responsible for this. It is important to identify the cause of baldness and then treat it. Baldness cannot be cured with just hair oil.’
Contains lots of natural ingredients
Makers of Adivasi hair oil claim that this oil contains 108 or 180 natural ingredients. Experts say that having more ingredients does not mean that it will work for hair growth.
According to Dr. Ajara, the ingredients used in Adivasi hair oil have no scientific basis. However, it may have some allopathic properties. For example, this oil contains amla which is considered beneficial for hair growth. The neem leaves present in it contain azadirachtin and nimbidin alkaloids, which have anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties that can prevent scalp infections. Nowadays people get attracted to the name ‘herbal’ as soon as they read it, which is wrong.
Prevents hair loss
The American Academy of Dermatology Association says that there can be many reasons for hair loss, which include hormonal changes, stress, environment, use of shampoos with high chemicals, changes in diet, etc.
Hair oils and treatments work better at maintaining and enhancing the health of existing hair, rather than stimulating new hair growth in areas where the follicles have stopped working.”
Dr. Ruben Bhasin Pasi, dermatologist and hair care expert at CK Birla Hospital, Gurugram, says, “If the cause of your hair fall is dandruff, then you can cure the dandruff. Hair oil will not help in this. Hair oil and other treatments can help in keeping the hair healthy and will not help in hair growth in the clogged hair pores.”
Reduces dandruff
Dr. Pasi says, ‘The main purpose of applying oil to the hair is to make your hair smooth. It has nothing to do with dandruff. Rather, if someone applies too much oil, then his hair may have dandruff. The company says that for good results, oil has to be applied twice a day. If someone does this, then the problem of dandruff can increase because fungus and bacteria grow more in a moist environment.’
How correct is it to use this oil?
Doctors say that the ingredients of this oil have no scientific basis. It is not right to use it just on the advice of celebs and influencers. Instead of using this oil without any basis, if you are suffering from hair fall, dandruff and other hair problems, then first contact a doctor.
