Prime Minister Modi (for his outstanding efforts to promote partnership and friendship between India and RussiaPM Modi) received Russia’s most prestigious civilian award, the Order of St Andrew the Apostle the First-Called. Prime Minister Modi received this award from President Vladimir Putin for his outstanding efforts to promote partnership and friendship between India and Russia.

After receiving the honour, Prime Minister Modi thanked Putin and Russia and said that it is an ‘honour’ for 140 crore Indians and a reflection of the centuries-old friendship between the two countries.

Prime Minister Modi said- ‘India-Russia partnership has strengthened in the last 25 years under the leadership of President Putin. We need to further encourage and support people-to-people partnership for a better future of the people of India and Russia’ The Prime Minister said, ‘India-Russia partnership is important. We believe that we should continue to strive for peace and stability. We will continue to work in this direction.’

Establishment of the Order of St. Andrew the Apostle the First-Called

The Order of St. Andrew the Apostle the First-Called was established in 1698 by Tsar Peter the Great in honor of St. Andrew, the first apostle of Jesus and patron saint of Russia. It was awarded in a single class and was awarded only for the most outstanding civil or military merit. The ceremony was held in the grand hall of the Order of St. Andrew.
