Posted from an account named ‘Modi Archive’, it was written, ‘The long-term relations between India and Russia have deep historical roots, which Prime Minister Narendra Modi has strengthened a lot during his tenure as the Chief Minister of Gujarat. Narendra Modi’s first visit to Russia took place on 6 November 2001, when he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat and went to Moscow with the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee for the India-Russia summit with President Vladimir Putin.

First meeting with Vladimir Putin

The post further stated that in 2019, Prime Minister Narendra Modi recalled this visit and said that this was his first meeting with President Vladimir Putin. He said that despite being from a small country and being relatively new on the international stage, President Putin treated him with great respect, which opened the doors of friendship between the two countries. In the following years, relations between the two countries strengthened through several visits. In 2006, Narendra Modi visited Astrakhan. During this he met Governor Alexander Zhilkin and the protocol agreement for cooperation was extended for another five years. In 2009 he was invited to address the 4th International Energy Week and deliver the keynote address at the 9th Russian Oil and Gas Week Conference. Narendra Modi surprised Russian businessmen by speaking in Russian. These collaborations laid the foundation of Gujarat-Russia partnership, especially in the energy and petrochemical sectors.
