Himachal Pradesh By-elections 2024: Former Union Minister Anurag Thakur is sweating it out in Himachal Pradesh these days. Although the weather is mild due to heavy rains in this hilly state, the political temperature is high. Thakur is an MP from Hamirpur. Voting is to be held on July 10 on three assembly seats in the state, for which he is leading the election campaign of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and appealing to the people to vote for the BJP. The special thing is that out of the three seats on which by-elections are going to be held, two seats fall in the Hamirpur Lok Sabha parliamentary constituency.

By-election on two seats in Hamirpur

These two seats are Dehra and Hamirpur. Thakur has been an MP from Hamirpur parliamentary seat since 2008. Earlier, Thakur’s father and former CM of the state Prem Kumar Dhumal has been an MP from this seat for three consecutive times. Winning both the assembly constituencies of his parliamentary seat has become a matter of prestige for Thakur. The third seat on which by-election is to be held is Nalagarh which comes under Shimla Lok Sabha parliamentary constituency. Thakur is continuously participating in election campaigns to win these seats in the by-election.

Dehra becomes a hot seat, CM Sukhu’s wife in the election fray

The election campaign for the by-elections will end on Monday evening. It is said that Thakur will stay in Hamirpur till the end of the election campaign. On Sunday, he addressed about six election programs in Hamirpur. He will also take out a bike rally on Monday for BJP candidate Ashish Sharma from Hamirpur seat. Thakur was in Dehra on Saturday. On this day, he held several rallies and campaigned for BJP candidate Hoshiar Singh Chambyal. Dehra has become a hot seat in Himachal Pradesh.

Kamlesh Thakur, wife of state Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu, is contesting elections for the first time from this seat. Sukhu is also continuously campaigning to ensure victory for his wife. Making Congress win the by-election has also become a matter of prestige for Sukhu as he hails from Naidun in Hamirpur district. Not only this, Deputy CM Mukesh Agnihotri’s seat also falls in this district.

Seats fell vacant after the resignation of independent MLAs

It is worth noting that these three seats were vacant after the resignation of independent MLAs. In the Rajya Sabha elections held in February, these MLAs voted for the BJP candidates and then joined the BJP. After this, their membership of the assembly was cancelled. The BJP is hopeful that it will win all the three seats in the by-elections while the Congress is claiming its victory. Both the BJP and the Congress have put their full strength in the election campaign for these three seats.
