The Uttarakhand Meteorological Department has declared a red alert for rain in the mountains on Sunday. Due to which the state government has postponed today’s yatra. Chardham Yatra is going on in Uttarakhand, regarding which the government seems confident to make the pilgrims safe. The government is constantly trying to prevent pilgrims from traveling. At the same time, weather scientists say that Chardham Yatra is not free from danger at this time. In view of this, the state government has closed the yatra for 24 hours.

Chardham Yatra was stopped due to heavy rain warning

The Char Dham Yatra was temporarily halted on Sunday in view of the weather department’s forecast of heavy to very heavy rains in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand on July 7 and 8. Garhwal Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey said that the decision to postpone the yatra has been taken keeping in mind the safety of the pilgrims. He said that the weather department has forecast heavy rains in the Garhwal division on July 7 and 8, in view of which all the devotees are requested not to leave for the Char Dham Yatra beyond Rishikesh on July 7.

Landslides are happening in hilly areas, know the situation where

He said that the devotees who have set out for the Char Dham Yatra should stay at the same place where they are now until the weather improves. Due to heavy rains in various parts of Uttarakhand for the last few days, landslides have been occurring in the hilly areas and the highway leading to Badrinath has been blocked at many places due to debris falling down from the hill.

Two pilgrims from Hyderabad were killed after being hit by rocks falling from a hill after a landslide in Chamoli district on Saturday. Both were returning from Badrinath on a motorcycle. Rivers are also in spate in Uttarakhand. The Alaknanda river is flowing close to the danger mark at Vishnu Prayag near Joshimath, Alaknanda merges with Dhauli Ganga at Vishnu Prayag.
