Flood havoc in Assam: 225 roads and 10 bridges destroyed, more than 24 lakh people affected, 52 dead so far

According to government figures, more than 24 lakh people have been affected in 30 districts of Assam due to floods and 52 people have died so far. According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), 63,490.97 hectares of crop land has also been submerged due to the floods.

Officials said two more deaths were reported on Saturday due to landslides. After this, the total number of people killed in the floods has gone up to 52. At the same time, about 70 percent of the Kaziranga National Park has been submerged in water, killing more than 77 animals, including three rhinos and 62 hog deer.

Thousands of people took shelter in relief camps

According to data from the Assam State Disaster Management Authority, a total of 24,20,722 people have been affected in 30 districts. Dhubri is among the worst affected districts. Here 7,75,721 people are affected. This is followed by 1,86,108 in Darang, 1,75,231 in Cachar, 1,39,399 in Barpeta and 1,46,045 in Morigaon. Officials said that 47,103 people have been shifted to relief camps. Officials said that in Kaziranga National Park, a total of 15,28,226 animals have been affected. Of these, 94 animals have been rescued, while 11 have died during treatment and 50 others have been released back into the forest.

According to the State Disaster Management Authority, 225 roads and 10 bridges have been completely destroyed due to floods in Assam. Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited the flood-affected areas in Dibrugarh district on Friday. He said that we will take the help of experts and local residents to find a solution to the problem of waterlogging in Dibrugarh city. Officials said that due to blockage of drains, there is waterlogging in Dibrugarh and the Brahmaputra river is flowing above the danger mark, due to which there are problems in draining out the water.
