The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways Ministry of Road Transport and Highways ,Morth) is building an all-weather road in Kargil, Ladakh. Under this, the 230 km long Kargil-Zanskar road is being widened as well as upgraded. National Highway (National HighwayThis part of )-301 is very important from the strategic point of view and its work will be completed by next year.

The work of this road is being done by National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL) is being done and after its construction, the life of the people here will become easier. The completion of this road will not only benefit the common people living here, but it is also important for India’s strategic power in the future. Most of this highway is being widened. Apart from this, three new bridges are also being built under this project.

According to the report of News 18, this project has been divided into 11 phases. This includes the construction of three new bridges. According to the latest update, work on four packages has been completed. Not only this, the construction work on two other packages has also been completed up to 95 percent and the work will be completed by the end of this month. Condition of All Weather Road from Kargil side

The 57 km road from Gargil side has been divided into two parts. The work on both these parts will be completed by October 2025. However, all the other works of this entire road project will be completed this year.

It will become easier to reach Tiger Hill

There are major difficulties in travelling in the Kargil and Zanskar region due to the lack of an all-weather road and a strong transport infrastructure. With the construction of this highway, access to Tiger Hill, Suru Valley, Kargil Dam area, Sani Monastery as well as Pangong Lake will become easier.

Last year, Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari had said about this project, ‘The hilly terrain here presents tremendous challenges. On one side there are deep ravines and on the other side there are straight mountains. The harsh environment of the area, less vegetation and challenges like lack of oxygen along with cold climate further increase the difficulties. Most of the areas here are uninhabited and there is also lack of connectivity.’

Completion of this road will make it easier for the armies to reach the border with their heavy weapons. Apart from being strategically important, this road will also play an important role in the economic development and promotion of tourism in the region.
