Narendra Modi Russia visit : Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going on a tour of two countries, Russia and Austria. He will be on a tour of these countries between July 8 and 10. The most special tour among these is Russia. This visit of the PM to Russia is happening after five years. Earlier, he went to Moscow in 2019. This visit of PM Modi to Russia is considered very important in the context of changing global equations including Russia-Ukraine. The relations between Russia and India have been very strong and have been tested by time. After the Ukraine war, India has maintained its relations with Russia as before without coming under pressure from Western countries, but due to US and Western sanctions, Russia has had to look towards China.

Putin visited China in May

Experts believe that Russia’s inclination towards China or getting too close to both the countries will not be good for Indian interests. Putin visited China in May. The impact of the Russian attack on Ukraine has been felt all over the world. Along with the international supply chain being affected, there was a fluctuation in oil prices as well. In the changing times, India has maintained its old friendship with Russia and has improved mutual relations with western countries including America. It is India’s diplomatic success that it did not let the heat of this war affect its relations with Russia.

India resumes oil purchases after sanctions

When Russia needed money the most after the economic sanctions, India gave it relief by buying oil in large quantities from it. Western countries also opposed this but India clearly said that it will buy oil wherever it gets cheap oil. Foreign Minister S Jaishankar also showed the mirror to the western countries. He said that the amount of oil India buys from Russia in a month is the same amount of oil that western countries buy in a day. India is also very dependent on Russia for its defense needs. But this dependence has gradually decreased, despite this, Russian weapons, its equipment and spare parts are used in large quantities in the Indian Army.

Buy less arms and more oil from Russia

According to the report of Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), India’s dependence on Russia for arms was 76 percent between 2009-13, which came down to 36 percent between 2019-23. France’s share in the supply of arms to India has increased. This country now exports 33 percent of India’s defense needs. The special thing is that India reduced the purchase of arms from Russia but increased the amount of oil purchase. That is, Russia was not allowed to suffer any loss.

Both countries will not let the warmth of mutual relations diminish

Today, India’s foreign policy and diplomacy are not being done under any pressure but according to its interests and needs. India is no longer coming under pressure from any country. It does what is right for its interests and the country. It cannot spoil its friendship and old relationship with Russia by coming under pressure from any country. An example of this can be seen in the proposals brought in the United Nations on the Ukraine war. So when America tried to put India in the dock in the Pannu case, there was no delay in Moscow issuing a statement in support of India.

Agreements and contracts can be made

It means that both India and Russia know the importance of their friendship and relations. They will not let it diminish under any circumstances. It is obvious that during PM Modi’s Moscow visit, both the countries will take this relationship to new heights and will also discuss current global and local issues. Important agreements and contracts can be signed between the two countries in many areas including defense and trade.
