More than 50 successful candidates of NEET-UG approached the Supreme Court, appealing not to cancel the exam

NEET-UG paper leak: More than 50 candidates from Gujarat who cleared NEET-UG have filed a petition in the Supreme Court requesting to direct the Center and NTA not to cancel the examination held on May 5. They have also demanded the apex court to direct the Union Education Ministry to investigate and identify the students and others involved in unfair activities like paper leak and cheating in the NEET-UG examination and take strict action against them.

26 petitions are to be heard

56 students from Gujarat have filed this petition at a time when just a few days ago, a bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud is going to hear 26 petitions. These petitions have demanded re-examination and investigation of the earlier examination. The National Examination Agency (NTA) conducts NEET-UG for admission to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH and other related courses in government and private institutions. This year the exam was conducted on May 5 at 4,750 centers, in which about 24 lakh candidates appeared.

The question paper leak case echoed across the country

Allegations of irregularities, including question paper leaks, led to protests in several cities and opposition parties raised the issue. Petitions seeking cancellation of the previous exam, re-examination and a high-level inquiry will be heard in the Supreme Court on July 8. The new petition by Siddharth Komal Singla and 55 other students has been filed through advocate Devendra Singh.

It would also violate the right to education…

The petition said, the Hon’ble Court should direct the respondents (Centre and NTA) not to conduct NEET-UG again… as it would not only be detrimental to honest and hardworking students but would also violate the right to education and hence violate Article 14 (Right to Equality) of the Constitution. The petition has sought direction to the Center and NTA to identify and punish the candidates who have adopted unfair means and take appropriate action by identifying those centers where any compromise has been made with the guidelines established for NEET-UG 2024 examinations.
