Israel is facing conflict on many fronts simultaneously. On the one hand, its military action is going on against Hamas in Gaza and Rafah, while on the other hand, it is now also facing Hezbollah on the Lebanon border. Hezbollah launched a barrage of rocket attacks from southern Lebanon on Saturday evening in the northern region of Israel. However, Israel’s air defense system Iron Dome intercepted and destroyed most of these rockets in the air over the Galilee Panhandle (the area located between northern Israel and southern Lebanon).

This rocket attack by Hezbollah came after a 17-year-old boy was killed and six others injured in an Israeli airstrike in the southern Lebanese city of Deir Syria. Earlier, an Israeli drone attack on Saturday morning in the southern Lebanon city of Bajourih near Tyre killed Ali Abd Ali, a key operative of the Iran-backed extremist group Hezbollah. The Israeli military described the slain operative as a ‘key terrorist’ deployed in Hezbollah’s Southern Front. Hezbollah’s Southern Front is equivalent to a regional command, which is responsible for the activities of this organization throughout southern Lebanon.

Hezbollah commander Fuad Shukar killed in Israeli attack

This conflict started when Hezbollah launched a rocket attack on a football field in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights area on 28 July, killing 12 children. After this attack, Israel vowed to teach Hezbollah a lesson like Hamas. Two days after this rocket attack, on 30 July, Israel carried out a massive airstrike in Lebanon’s capital Beirut, in which Hezbollah’s top commander Fouad Shukr was killed. Israel held Shukr responsible for the rocket attack on the Golan Heights football field.

US-UK asked their citizens to leave Lebanon

Since then, Israel has been continuously targeting Hezbollah’s bases in Lebanon. The US Embassy in Lebanon on Saturday urged its citizens to leave the country on ‘any available ticket’ amid fears of war between Israel and Hezbollah and a wider regional conflict. The British government has also urged its citizens in Lebanon to leave the country immediately. The killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyya has further increased tensions in the region. Iran and Palestinian extremist group Hamas allege that Haniya was killed by Israel. At the same time, Israel has neither denied being behind Haniya’s death nor taken responsibility for it.

Tension increased between Iran and Israel after Haniya’s murder

Iran has also accused the US of playing a role in the death of Ismail Haniya. At the same time, the US has said that it neither has any information about the killing of the Hamas leader nor was it involved in it. Let us tell you that Ismail Haniya, the head of Hamas’s political wing, was killed in a targeted attack in Iran’s capital Tehran on July 31, 2024. He had reached Tehran to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Iran’s new President Masoud Pezeshkian and after attending the program, the house where he was staying was blown up with a bomb. After this, tensions between Iran and Israel have reached their peak. The US said that it is increasing its military presence in the Middle East to protect its personnel and protect Israel.
