The entire village of Samej in Himachal Pradesh has been reduced to rubble after a cloudburst on Wednesday night and people are still searching for their loved ones while rescue operations are underway in the area. Survivors shared their horrific experience as they lost everything to the adverse weather conditions. The impact of the cloudburst was so devastating that it swept away all the houses in the area, with just one house still standing amid the rubble.
Anita Devi shared her ordeal, describing the severity of the disaster. She recalled that a loud sound woke her up on Wednesday. ‘When we looked outside, the entire village had been swept away. We ran to the Bhagwati Kali Mata temple in the village and spent the entire night there,’ she was quoted as saying by a news channel. ‘Only our house escaped the devastation, but everything else was swept away in front of my eyes. Now, I don’t know who I should live with,’ Anita said.
An elderly resident, Bakshi Ram, told a touching story
Bakshi Ram, an elderly resident of Samej village, narrated a touching story, in which he spoke about his pain of losing loved ones.
‘Around 14 to 15 people from my family were swept away in the floods. I got the news of the floods at 2 am and I was in Rampur at that time, so I survived. When I reached here at 4 am, everything was destroyed. Now, I am looking for my loved ones, hoping someone is still alive,’ he said with tears in his eyes.

53 people missing till Saturday after flash floods
According to the District Disaster Management Authority, 53 people are missing and six bodies have been recovered till Saturday after a devastating cloudburst and subsequent flash floods in Himachal Pradesh’s Kullu, Mandi and Shimla districts. DC Rana, Special Secretary, DDMA informed that more than sixty houses were washed away, and several villages were badly affected by the floods.
