Many train accidents have happened at the beginning of the third term of the Modi government. After which the Railway Minister and the government are on the target of the opposition. The opposition is cornering the government from the streets to the Parliament. After which Ashwini Vaishnav said in the Rajya Sabha on Friday that the government has started operating hundreds of new trains in the last five years.
How many new trains in five years
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that 772 train services including 100 Vande Bharat have been introduced in the Indian Railways network from 2019-2020 to 2023-2024. “To meet the travel needs of different classes of passengers, Indian Railways introduces and operates various types of services like express trains, superfast trains, passenger/MEMU/DEMU trains and suburban services,” the Railway Minister told Rajya Sabha in a written reply to a question on Friday.

BJP MP had asked the question
BJP MP Neeraj Shekhar had sought from him the number of new trains proposed during 2024-25 and the year-wise and region-wise details of new trains like Vande Bharat, Rajdhani and other trains introduced in the last five years. Responding to this, Vaishnav said, “During the period from 2019-2020 to 2023-2024, 772 train services including 100 Vande Bharat trains have been introduced on the Indian Railways network. The introduction of train services on Indian Railways is a continuous process which depends on traffic justification, operational feasibility, availability of resources.
How many Vande Bharat
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that the Indian Railways has introduced new Vande Bharat train services without replacing the existing trains. Vaishnaw responded to questions raised by AIADMK MP C.V. Shanmugam, who wanted to know if Vande Bharat trains will replace all super fast trains like Rajdhani and others. Vaishnaw said- “As of July 29, 2024, Indian Railways has 102 Vande Bharat train services running, connecting states with broad gauge (BG) electrified network. These chair car variants are currently being operated over a distance of 760 km. The new Vande Bharat services were introduced without replacing the existing services.
