Himanta Biswa Sarma: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Friday that stopping infiltration is not only the responsibility of the central government but of everyone. He also sarcastically asked Rahul Gandhi the ‘formula’ on how to conduct a caste survey without revealing one’s caste.

‘Santhal Pargana is most affected by infiltration’

“Santhal Pargana in Jharkhand has been the worst affected by infiltration. In the last 20 years, the population of infiltrators has increased by 50-60 per cent in various constituencies of this region and the situation may become like Assam,” Sarma, BJP’s Jharkhand election co-incharge, told reporters here.

He claimed that the Muslim population in Assam has increased from 12 per cent in 1952 to 40-42 per cent at present, the main reason for which is infiltration. Sarma said, “If infiltration continues, the day is not far when the Chief Minister will have to surrender before them (infiltrators). This is not a political issue, but it is everyone’s responsibility to save the state. The state government should build a consensus on this issue and initiate action against the infiltrators.”

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren has repeatedly blamed the Centre for infiltration and said it is the responsibility of the central government to stop it.

Himanta Biswa lashed out at Rahul Gandhi

Taking a dig at Rahul Gandhi, he said that Rahul Gandhi wants caste survey but does not want to disclose his own caste. He said, “Caste survey has been conducted in Bihar. Whether it will be conducted in the whole country or not is a different matter, but is it possible without a person disclosing his caste?”
