Many researches have revealed that Uttarakhand is considered the most landslide prone area in the Himachal region, followed by Himachal and other states. It is believed that up to 40 percent of landslide incidents in the Himalayan region occur in Uttarakhand. Apart from this, there are many incidents of landslides in Assam, Kerala, Karnataka as well

Why is Kashmir left out?

Actually, the upper region of the Himalayas is not considered a landslide prone area. If you look at the map given above, you will understand that a large part of Kashmir falls in the upper part of Himachal, which is considered a green area, that is, there are very few landslides here. Above this, there are also moderate, high and very high categories. The reason for less landslides in the northern part of Kashmir is also the mountains there.

Actually, due to the presence of limestone, sandstone and granite in the mountains, such incidents do not happen. Apart from this, due to the presence of rivers like Jhelum and Sindhu, there is a different system of water drainage, which reduces the risk of landslides. Apart from this, the rainfall in Kashmir is also less than other regions, which also protects this area from landslides. Apart from this, due to the snowy mountains, the soil here is more stable. However, it cannot be said that there are no landslides at all in Kashmir, such incidents happen here too. But the conditions here are different.
