Monsoon reached entire India six days ago, today it advanced in these states, IMD gave update

IMD Monsoon Update: The southwest monsoon has reached the entire country six days before the normal date. The India Meteorological Department gave this information on Tuesday. The department said in a statement that the southwest monsoon today further advanced into the remaining parts of Rajasthan, Haryana and Punjab. Thus it covered the entire country by July 2, 2024, whereas it normally reaches the entire country by July 8.

It reached Kerala and the Northeast region on May 30

The IMD said that the monsoon reached the entire India six days before its normal time. The monsoon reached Kerala and the Northeast region on May 30, which is two to six days before normal. It progressed normally till Maharashtra, but its speed slowed down due to which the wait for rain increased in West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh and the effect of severe heat in North-West India increased further.

Below normal rainfall from 11 to 27 June

The country recorded below normal rainfall for 16 days from June 11 to June 27, making June overall rainfall below normal. The month received 147.2 mm rainfall as against the normal rainfall of 165.3 mm, which is the seventh lowest since 2001. June accounts for 15 per cent of the total rainfall (87 cm) during the four-month monsoon season in the country.

India may receive above normal rainfall in July and heavy rains are likely to cause flooding in river valleys in the western Himalayan regions and the central part of the country, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Monday.
