In Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra, the police have arrested about two dozen eunuchs from different places on charges of creating nuisance in public places and making obscene gestures to passersby. A police officer said on Thursday that this action was taken by the AHTC team after receiving a complaint.
Giving information in this matter, a senior official of Navi Mumbai Police said that the police had received complaints from local residents and others that transgenders make objectionable gestures to passersby and disturb the peace in various areas of Navi Mumbai.
After this, the case was handed over to the Anti Human Trafficking Cell (AHTC) of Navi Mumbai Police. This special unit investigated the entire case and then three teams were formed for further action. As per the plan, on July 30, AHTC conducted simultaneous raids at various places including Uran Phata, Juinagar and APMC Truck Terminal in Navi Mumbai.

During the raid, teams of the Anti Human Trafficking Cell (AHTC) detained 21 transgenders. The police officer said that 12 transgenders were detained from Juinagar, six from APMC Truck Terminal and three from Uran Phata.
According to the police officer, an FIR has been registered against the arrested eunuchs in CBD, Nerul and APMC police stations under section 296 (obscene act or song) of the Indian Penal Code (BNS). Now all of them will be produced in the court and further action will be taken.
