Rahul Gandhi , Leader of Opposition and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, who had gone to take stock of the situation in Wayanad after the landslide, became emotional. Talking to the media, he said that today he felt the same pain as he felt on the death of his father. His voice choked while talking about the Wayanad tragedy. His sister Priyanka Gandhi and Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal were present with him on this occasion.
The whole country is worried about Wayanad today: Rahul
Rahul said, ‘Coming here today, I felt the same pain and sorrow as I felt on the death of my father. Here people have not only lost their father but their whole family has perished. We are indebted to the love of these people. The whole country is worried about Wayanad today.’ Rahul said that he does not think that this is the place to talk about politics. People here need help. Our effort should be to ensure that every kind of help reaches here. Rahul said, ‘They do not have to do politics here. I only want to think about the people of Wayanad.’
Visited Choorlamalla in Wayanad
Earlier, the Congress wrote on ‘X’, ‘Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and Congress General Secretary Mrs. Priyanka Gandhi ji visited Choorlamala in Wayanad where many lives were lost and many families were ruined due to the devastating landslide.’ The party also posted pictures of the visit of these leaders on ‘X’. From there, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi went to Dr. Moopen Medical College and Community Health Center in Meppadi where the bodies have been kept. Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi talked to the affected families there. Party General Secretary and Alappuzha MP KC Venugopal and many other Congress leaders were also with both of them.
Rahul reached Wayanad by road
According to the schedule of their visit released by the party, both the siblings will later visit two relief camps in Meppadi. Gandhi won the election from Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency in 2019. In the recent Lok Sabha elections, he again won from Wayanad. Along with this, he also won from Rae Bareli seat in Uttar Pradesh. He resigned from the Wayanad constituency in June where Priyanka is expected to contest if a by-election is held. Earlier, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi landed at Kannur airport at 9.30 am and then reached Wayanad by road. Massive landslides caused by torrential rains in Wayanad district on Tuesday morning affected Mundakkai, Choorlamala, Attamala and Noolpuzha settlements, killing 173 people including women and children so far.
