Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train, The construction work of Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train corridor is progressing rapidly. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has given the latest update regarding this. The Railway Minister said in Parliament on July 31 that India is moving ahead in the development of bullet trains using indigenous technology. Speaking in the Lok Sabha, Vaishnav explained in detail that the country’s first bullet train project is being prepared by Japanese collaboration and technical work is most important in it. The bullet train project is being constructed between Ahmedabad and Mumbai. A total of 508 km corridor is being constructed between these two cities. Work is currently going on on 320 km corridor.
Bullet train project gains momentum
Though construction in the Maharashtra section was slow earlier, it has gained momentum since the BJP-Shiv Sena government came to power in 2022. Necessary permissions have been taken from all the states. He said that now the work is going on at a very fast pace.
The first undersea rail tunnel is also being constructed
Vaishnav also mentioned that the construction of India’s first undersea rail tunnel spanning 21 km is underway. The Railway Minister said that initially the bullet train technology was imported, since then India has developed many of its own technologies. He said that we are working on developing bullet trains with completely indigenous technology and becoming self-reliant.

Let us tell you that the construction of bridges on six out of 24 rivers on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad rail corridor has been completed. At present, construction work is going on on Narmada, Tapti, Mahi and Sabarmati rivers. Work on the rail tunnel under the sea is also going on. The tunnel will be 21 km long between Bandra Kurla Complex and Shilphata in Maharashtra.

The Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train corridor is 508 km long and will have a total of 12 stations. On this route, 8 stations are being built in Gujarat, while 4 stations are being built in Maharashtra. It is expected that the first phase of the bullet train will start from Surat to Bilimora in the year 2026. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the then Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe launched the Ahmedabad-Mumbai bullet train project in Gujarat on 14 September 2017. The bullet train will cover the distance of 508 km between Ahmedabad and Mumbai in about 3-3.30 hours. India’s first bullet train project is being built with Japan’s Shinkansen technology. Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has funded its construction.
