Rahul Gandhi in Parliament: Union Home Minister Amit Shah (Amit Shah) on Monday demanded from Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla that he should direct to verify the claim of Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi regarding not buying food grains from farmers on minimum support price and not giving compensation to the families of martyred Agniveers of the army. Birla has agreed to Shah’s demand.

During the discussion on the motion of thanks on the President’s address in the Lok Sabha on Monday, Leader of Opposition Gandhi accused the government of creating an atmosphere of fear and claimed that in case of martyrdom of Agniveers, their families will not be given compensation. He cited a conversation with the family of a martyr to confirm his claim. However, he did not reveal the name of the martyr concerned.

‘The Leader of the Opposition is misleading the House by making false statements’

On this, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh intervened and clarified and said that the Leader of the Opposition is misleading the House by making false statements. Singh said that in case of martyrdom of any Agniveer, one crore rupees are given to his family. He said that Gandhi should either verify this claim or apologize for this misstatement.

Rahul has MSP But accused of not buying grains from farmers

Meanwhile, Gandhi attacked the government alleging that it was not buying foodgrains from farmers at the minimum support price (MSP), prompting Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan to intervene. When Gandhi concluded his address, Shah showed the instruction booklet and said if any minister or member presents factual things while giving a speech and any member challenges it, the Chair can direct to verify it.

Speaker Om Birla said, ‘We will verify’

For this, he cited rule number 115(one) to 115(four) of the rule book and said that the Leader of Opposition presented many facts which are not true. He said, ‘The ruling party has objected to those statements. We demand you to order verification, we should get protection.’ He said that the Leader of Opposition should be instructed to verify his statement. On this, Om Birla said, ‘We will verify it.’
